The South Carolina Department of Transportation is beginning a road project that will impact some drivers in Greer until next fall.

The plan is to convert the four-way stop at Gap Creek and Gary Armstrong Roads into a round-about. The DOT will intermittently close areas along Gary Armstrong and Hamilton Road during construction of the new intersection.

Drivers should look for alternate routes during the construction if possible. If you must go through the area around Gap Creek and Gary Armstrong, slow down and pay close attention to signs and work crew instructions. Detours will be marked with signs, but routes may change as the construction progresses.

The DOT estimates the new round-about will be open to drivers in fall of 2026.

Greer's downtown green spaces aren't amazing by accident.

They are beautiful largely because of the thoughtful planning and intentional care our Urban Parks team puts into maintaining them.
The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) recently awarded Greer’s team two national Green Star awards:

-Grand Award for Greer City Park
-Honor Award for Center for the Arts Park

Grounds Superintendent Gary Melton also brought home the Outstanding Leadership award. Thanks to Gary and his team for their dedication and hard work.

On Monday evening the community gathered to honor a local legend at the dedication of Lonnie McGee field at Greer City Stadium.
“Gee,” as he was affectionately known, was a fixture of the Greer community leading the Yellow Jackets marching band in the Christmas parade and enthusiastically cheering on the Greer High School and Greer youth football teams.
Guests at the dedication ceremony shared stories of Gee’s lasting impact and the legacy that will continue to inspire young athletes for generations to come.

As a nationally recognized Monarch City, Greer is dedicated to protecting our pollinators. Our parks teams not only plant pollinator-friendly flowers throughout city parks and green spaces — they also nurture caterpillars as they transform into butterflies. This year alone, we’ve released more than 20!

We love sharing this front-row seat with the community as our Monarchs take flight and begin their journey south.

Few individuals have embodied the spirit of Greer quite like Lonnie “Gee” McGee. For decades, Gee was an honorary member of the Greer High School football team and a beloved presence on the sidelines of Greer Youth Football where his encouragement and dedication inspired generations of players. His community spirit extended beyond the field, as he proudly led the Yellow Jackets Marching Band in the City of Greer’s annual Christmas Parade for many years, spreading joy to residents across the Upstate.

To commemorate his lasting impact, the City of Greer will dedicate the field at Greer City Stadium in his name on Monday, October 20, at 5:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place immediately prior to the 8U Greer Jr. Jackets playoff game. Please note that parking will be limited.
