The City of Greer’s new 200,000-square-foot Sports & Events Center is going up along South Highway 14 as a destination where athletes, families, and neighbors will come together for recreation, competition, and connection. Scheduled to open in 2027, this state-of-the-art facility will host youth and adult programs such as basketball, volleyball, wrestling, pickleball, futsal, and more while creating new opportunities for camps, senior programming, cheerleading, archery, and regional tournaments.
A project of this scale requires partnership. Many Upstate companies are collaborating with the City of Greer and Harper General Contractors to bring this facility to life, each contributing expertise, craftsmanship, and pride. One of those partners is Metromont, the Greenville-based precast concrete manufacturer responsible for producing the building’s exterior wall panels.
Metromont manufactured the precast concrete panels that form the exterior shell of Greer’s new Sports & Events Center. Metromont creates these engineered panels in a controlled plant environment, where thin brick, reinforcing steel, insulation, and concrete are combined into large composite wall sections. Many of the panels measure up to 12 feet wide by 30 to 40 feet tall. Once the panels are complete, Metromont transports them to the site and puts them into place with a large crane.
The result looks like traditional masonry construction, but the panels have the strength, efficiency, and insulation performance of modern prefabrication. “A lot of people aren’t going to look at it and say that’s a precast structure, and that’s the beauty of precast,” said Christian Decker, Metromont’s Sales and Business Development Manager.
For many of the city’s Sports & Events Center project partners, this work is personal. Metromont is celebrating more than 100 years in business and views this project as an opportunity to invest directly in the community where many of its employees live, work, and worship.
“I actually attend church right across the street from where the project is being built,” said Michael Oliver, Metromont’s Marketing Specialist. “Being able to say my company is a part of this, that’s special.”
The Sports & Events Center is part of the City’s broader ForGreer initiative, a strategic investment in infrastructure, public safety, and quality-of-life projects designed to serve Greer’s growing population. Once complete, the facility will support the community’s recreation needs and attract regional events that bring visitors and economic impact to the City of Greer.
